This boutique hotel is just steps away from the Pacific Ocean—walks along the beach or surfing dates in the sea are part of the daily routine here. Aside from exploring the area around Malpaís, guests can take advantage of the many amenities that the hotel has on tap. As already noted, there is a yoga studio where you can stretch, flex and pose to your heart's content. The studio is set beneath a large, palm-thatched rancho in the hotel's garden. A variety of classes are offered for all levels of experience, including an aerial dance workshop, which has participants hanging from cloth ribbons tied to the ceiling, striking tension-releasing postures. If, after all this, you still require some deeper relaxation, head towards the hotel's spa. A range of therapeutic treatments can be arranged, including massages, facials, wraps, scrubs and rubs.
Days along the beach can be interspersed with days at the pool, which is large and cool and surrounded by small private ranchos. Relaxing in the shade beneath one of these ranchos is an unbeatable way to pass the time. Once hunger strikes, meander over to the hotel's gourmet restaurant. From rich Costa Rican coffee at sunrise to elegant deserts by starlight, this restaurant's mouthwatering options will satisfy any craving. The menu changes daily, but tends to rely on fresh fish and local produce from the area's farmers. The open-air atmosphere is tranquil and pleasant.
The Beija Flor Resort features two standard rooms, eight deluxe rooms, one master suite and two master villas. Most rooms are set within a long building that's fronted by a shared, hammock-strewn porch. Inside, the rooms have polished stone floors and arched wooden ceilings. Ceiling fans and air conditioning help make the hot months bearable, and there are mosquito nets over the beds in case any insects find their way inside. All rooms have a private hot water bathroom and some even have an outdoor shower. In addition to the standard and deluxe rooms, there are two villas. These are much larger and come stocked with a full kitchen, an amenity that's especially nice when cooking and storing food for groups.
