What is Playa Garza like?
A broad, white-sand crescent with a fishing village behind it. Where Nosara's Playa Guiones is long, straight and full of surfers, Garza is sheltered and slow: a reef offshore breaks the swell, so the water inside the bay is calmer. It feels more Costa Rican village than wellness town.
Can you swim at Playa Garza?
Yes, it's the calmest swimming near Nosara, and the obvious beach for families with small children. Calm isn't the same as risk-free: keep kids within reach, watch for boats coming in and out, and ask locals about conditions on big-swell days.
Insider tip: If you're staying in Nosara with toddlers, make Garza your swimming beach and Guiones your walking and sunset beach. They're only 6 km apart.
How do you get there?
From Santa Teresa, take the paved road through Paquera and Nicoya, about 4½ hours; Garza is on the way into Nosara. From Liberia airport it's about 2½ hours. When is the best time to go?
December to April for dry roads and the calmest days. In the green season (May to November) the gravel roads turn muddy, and September and October are the wettest months.

Most visitors stay in Nosara and drive down for the day. Families who want the kids club and lifeguards of Guiones plus calm water at Garza get the best of both; see where to stay in Nosara. If calm water is the whole point, consider basing yourself in Sámara instead.
